Description

Relaxin-2 isapeptidehormonestructurallyrelatedtoinsulin,whichisexpressedintheplacenta,decidua,prostate,andovariesduringpregnancy.Ofthethreeknownrelaxingenes,relaxin-2 istheonlyrelaxinknowntocirculateintheblood.Relaxin-2 bindsspecificallytotheLGR7andLGR8receptors,previouslyidentifiedas“orphan”Gprotein-coupledreceptors.Signalingbyrelaxin-2 throughitstargetreceptorsenhancesthegrowthofpubicligaments,andtheripeningofthecervixduringbirth.RecombinantHumanRelaxin-2 isanon-glycosylated,6.0 kDa,disulfide-linked,heterodimericproteinconsistingofa24 aminoacidA-chain,anda29 aminoacidB-chain.
